Exciting Sports & Fellowship
ACTIVITIES FOR 2002

by Dante Herras

We haven’t inducted our officers and new members for Year 2002 yet, but the Sports and Fellowship Committee has already completed two activities - the 1st Fun Bowling Day on February 22 and the 2nd Fun Bowling Day on April 2. Our third activity, the PICPA Bowling League is set to start on April 16 and will last till May 28. Eight participating teams will play in a round robin format in this event. There will be prizes and gifts to be given away during the seven rounds of matches and the awards will be presented to the League winners on the final day of the competition.

Once the bowling activities are completed, we will shift to ballroom dancing in June. This will be held with the cooperation of Filipino Dance Club, which will provide dancing instructors as part of their outreach programs. We will have three to four sessions at a venue that will be announced later.

During the Accountancy Week in July, we will have another fun bowling event - it will be held jointly with PICPA Abu Dhabi Chapter. Both chapters will form teams that will compete in the event. It could either be held here in Dubai or in Abu Dhabi, depending on the plans that will be finalized by both chapters.

We will not be concentrating on bowling alone. We will also have the PICPA Tennis Tournament in November. The competition will be preceded by several weeks of training and practices to ensure that the participants are in good shape by the time the tournament begins.

To have a balance set of fellowship activities for this year, we are also planning an out-of town get-together gathering where PICPANs and Associate Members and families would engage in plain exchanging of thoughts and experiences. The activity would focus more on togetherness rather than bowling, tennis and dancing skills. The date for this activity is still to be finalized.

Of course, all of this will not be complete if we will not have a Christmas Party. Yes, we will have a Christmas Party as the final activity for 2002 and it will probably be held during the earlier part of December, as many PICPANs and Associate Members go on vacation during the yuletide season.

The Sports and Fellowship Committee is headed by Mr. Benny Tamayo and includes Ms. Vicvic Tiangha, Ms. Jarsel Longakit and Mr. Dante Herras as members.
