FIRST FUN BOWLING DAY

"It only takes a spark to get the fire going..."
The Fun Bowling Day, which was held at the Dubai Bowling Center on the 22nd of February, was the first activity of PICPA for Year 2002. It wasn’t meant to be the first gathering that the present officers had thought of, but it proved to be the “buena mano” for the many activities scheduled for this year.
Before it happened, there was no doubt that a get-together event needs to be held to revive the fading enthusiasm of the PICPANs. During their first meeting, the officers decided to immediately hold a general membership meeting - to kick-off the events lined up for this year. However, to generate enough interest about the affair, it should be preceded by an effective yet easy-to-organize get-together activity. Thus, the thought of having a fun bowling day came about.
The decision to hold such event was quickly made just before the Eid holidays. Benny Tamayo (Chairman, Sports and Fellowship Committee) sought my assistance to organize a fun bowling day, which I gladly supported. I relayed the message to our President, Redd Valdehueza, who immediately endorsed the idea. After quick phone calls and swift confirmation of participation from available PICPANs and friends, the event pushed through.
Sixteen participants showed up. Four teams were formed. Each team played three games in a round-robin format. There were no official winners declared, as there were no prizes to be given. The objective of the event, however, was definitely achieved. As the last frames of the last game were being completed, the participants certainly knew that it was the end of nothing…it was just the beginning of everything!
