At a time that accounting scandals and controversies are hitting business
headlines and shaking financial markets, the Philippine Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (Dubai Chapter) is reaching out to the Filipino community in
the UAE by providing them a crash course in Accounting for Non Accountants, as
part of their community service program.
The first batch of trainees is about to complete the course on Friday, July
26, at Pinoy Club Comfort Inn Hotel. The certificates of attendance will be
immediately handed over to the successful participants right after the final
part. The course will not convert the participants into full pledged
accountants; they will remain non-accountants, but with a good understanding of
the accounting profession, fair knowledge of bookkeeping cycle and much better
appreciation of the financial reports. It is meant after all to make them better
users of financial statements.
The Filipino community warmly received the project, which was originally
planned as a one-time activity, to be held annually by the Professional
Development Committee. Due to overwhelming response and insistent demand, and to
accommodate those who were waitlisted (and actually outnumbering now the first
batch of participants), the committee decided to conduct the same course to the
second batch of trainees on September 6 & 13, 2002.
The first set of instructors consists of accomplished CPAs and honor
graduates from their respective universities in the Philippines, namely Dante
Herras, Edgardo Soriano, Mary Geraldine "Jinky" Bacalan-Aguillon and Rediculo
Valdehueza, Jr.
